EXPERIENCE
Our first stop is the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes.” This Andean baroque gem amazes with its mural art, golden ceilings, and intricately decorated altar. Next, we visit the archaeological site of Raqchi, an ancient ceremonial center dedicated to the god Wiracocha. Explore monumental temples, Inca structures, agricultural terraces, and an artificial lagoon surrounded by history.
At midday, enjoy a delicious Andean buffet lunch in the charming town of Sicuani, featuring fresh local products and traditional flavors. Then the journey continues to Abra La Raya (4,335 m / 14,222 ft), the highest point of the route and the natural border between Cusco and Puno. Here, admire the snow-capped Chimboya mountain, reaching 5,300 m (17,388 ft). To end the day, we visit the Lithic Museum of Pucará, home to pre-Inca stone sculptures and monoliths over 2,000 years old—remnants of the artistic and spiritual legacy of the Pucará culture.
This itinerary is part of the iconic Route of the Sun, a full-day experience available in both directions: Cusco to Puno or Puno to Cusco, with the same stops and unique cultural encounters.
